Big Ten Divisions: I Gotta Have More Cowbell! Posted by Dr._Jay on Wednesday, September 08 @ 17:40:26 EDT (23 reads)

by Brent Meyer
Hawkeyes.Org Columnist
Editor's Note: This column was submitted late last week, but due to Labor Day weekend travels, I was without email, and didn't have a chance to receive or post this article until today. Apologies to the author and our readers.
The college football season kicks off tonight as I write this on Thursday and so this will be my last “pre-season” article. After tonight, the conjecture that is the pre-season comes to an end, but before that moment comes, I have one more piece of analysis on the topic du jour, Big Ten Divisions and its indelible lack of cowbell.

The Weekly Hawk-itorial: We Are Back Posted by Dr._Jay on Friday, September 03 @ 00:45:58 EDT (36 reads)

Not only are the Hawks back to prove that 2009's 9-0 start wasn't a fluke, Hawkeyes.Org is back
with the regular fall columns you've come to expect. The Fearless Forecast, Hawkeye Harangue, other
contributed articles, and once again, my weekly "Hawk-itorial". It's all football all the time this
week as college games began tonight. Iowa State started slow, but eventually put away Northern Illinois.
Read on and I'll talk about whether Iowa can do the same with the Eastern school from the same state.

The Big Ten: Divided and Conquered Posted by Dr._Jay on Friday, August 27 @ 10:54:12 EDT (56 reads)

There is a lot of talk around the internet about how the Big Ten (+2) is going to divide up its divisions once Nebraska comes on board next year. Given that this is the perfect pre-season conversation and part of why I like expansion, I’ll weigh in by first offering a piece of conventional wisdom.

Preseason Rank Sets the Table for Iowa Posted by Dr._Jay on Monday, August 09 @ 12:44:15 EDT (43 reads)

Well, HERE IT IS. The first preseason USA TODAY TOP 25 Coaches Poll. You can browse the list yourself, but the Hawks are in there at #10, sandwiched between Nebraska and Oregon.
Before the first kickoff or even some media days, these rankings are mostly just a compilation of pre-season hype and previous year's performance, both of which benefit Iowa a great deal this year after winning the 2010 Orange Bowl in resounding fashion. Meanwhile, I have some thoughts about Iowa's preseason ranking...
