Yup, and a contract extension to add years looks to be in the works.

I don't know what power this man has over the decision makers at the U of I, but wow. I thought the modest extension was perfect in light of current circumstances. To go any further is lunacy.

Imagine the type of lifetime contract he'll get if he ever does reach the next level.

Can't blame Alford, but wow. The buyout had better be reasonable if things don't turn around in the next couple years.

One tournament win in seven years usually doesn't equal major extension, but what do I know?

That is a joke. The extension with Bowlsby was fine (I guess). Barta should leave it alone and see if Alford can fulfill his end of the bargain first. I think Stevie is already recruiting-challenged, despite the recent pickups, so talk of assuring future recruits he is staying doesn't carry much heft. Just my opinion.

He runs a clean ship, kids graduate ( that stay ), and they had winning seasons, and then add in a good year last year. Then, top all that with what is appearing to be some good level recruiting, the contract has to be added to a bit to keep the continuity in recruiting, kids wont sign up if the coach has a contract less than their potential college career would last. There are pluses and minuses, lets hope the momentum continues to build in the positive trend, then the contract is a good thing.
