Nice play on names. It is Gary from Elkhart. He could be a magnet kid, as he is great friends with a bunch of top notch kids. As on guy said on another site, he could be like Christensen and gather others in. It would be nice it that happened. He seems like a quality kid, and I think the staff has been working hard on getting those types since they had some bad luck with others earlier in this staff´s ( w/o Neal ) tenure. _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain

Sherron Collins to Kansas. Is Weber going to be able to recruit at all? He has a Final Four appearance in his pocket, yet I dont see him capitalizing on it at all. Heck, he even lost a recruit to Duke that his brother coaches in the suburbs of Chicago. Honestly, being Illinois and all, I think its funny. _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain

He also doesnt have grades yet ( Iowa has never liked to take non qualifiers ), so what does it matter? _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain

And if he had committed you´d be salivating all over your computer screen and posting message after message about the "next level" recruit, and how this marks the beginning of the turnaround, so save it. _________________ Schadenfreude.

Henery - Iowa doesn´t like to take non-qualifiers? Alford offered this kid like 3 years ago. He didn´t have the grades three years ago either (well mostly because he wasn´t close to graduation). I am in Donny´s court here. If Sherron had signed, you´d be fired up but since he´s going to Kansas it´s because Iowa has an excuse.

Save it, huh? Nice response. Where in this thread did I amp up this kid, or make an excuse? Grades have been an issue, and it will be interesting to see if he makes it. I think pretty much everyone would love to see a kid of this calibre come to Iowa, seems like a no brainer.
As for Iowa, historically, they dont like to take non qualifiers, and have limits on partial qualifiers. Hardly a haven to attract that type of kid.
Donny, are just looking to piss all over the board or what? This started as a postive post about a commitment, not a knock on the program again. Is seeing that the Cubs suck so bad and that the rival Sox are in the WS putting you in an extra bitchy mood? Plus the Cards are still playing and fighting for a WS spot not helping either, huh? Try to add something constructive, critique whether you think this could be a good get or not. I think the this team having another weak BT season and perhaps even losing, would simply give you a hard on just hoping that SA would get fired. Real team spirit, dude. _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain

Since I´m not a big recruitnik and since this kid is a junior, I hadn´t heard of him until two days ago. I´m not, therefore, terribly qualified to say whether he´s a good "get" or not. He sounds good but so did Josh Rhoads and Ben Rand. I hope he is and I hope the basketball program has a good season. Horner, Haluska and Brunner is a good foundation. If a couple of the supporting cast (Henderson, Thompson, Thomas, Hansen) take their games up a notch I think Iowa might have a chance to be pretty good this year, maybe even really good if they click as a team and everyone stays healthy. If Iowa has a bad year I won´t be happy, but if it means Iowa gets a decent coach at least there´s a silver lining.
I´m not looking to "piss all over the board." I do get tired, however, of how every commit is the next big thing, and everyone who chooses to go elsewhere Iowa didn´t really want anyway, whether it´s because of academics, bad fit, whatever.
Don´t ever question my team spirit. But since I´m apparently bitchy, I´ll part with this: I´m still waiting for you to add something constructive to the board.

I thought contributing the info about a new commit/recruit had some value.
Your take on the team was fair, and well summarized.
I didnt think my adding this kids info was broadcasting him as "the kid to do it all", I dont think Collins would have been that either ( as for KU, they thought that for Jacque Vaughn, and he wasnt...but was a good piece to a puzzle ), but he may well be the type who can put a team over to the next level. My add on about grades wasnt an excuse, but a comment I have read countless times over the last months, I wonder if he will qualify ( for his sake, I hope he can ). But, to keep in mind, if he did commit to Iowa, and then not make the grades, the PR would have sucked again, so a part of me is glad that isnt what we have to deal with again. Now, in the same breath, I hope Gray does well in that manner when it is time for him to do so ( tests, as the grades and core courses should be getting handled along the way ). It would/will be nice if this kid will be a good fit with others brought in, and they ake a good, hard working, high achieving team.
Oh...."nice response". _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain
