Per the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Is anyone surprised? 0-3 on Bohannon, Hughes and Dahlman.

Things are not pretty at Carver these days. Even if the seniors turn in a good season, the cupboard is looking pretty bare.

Too early to quit. The team is ranked no 9 in a pre season magazine. A good season can do wonders. The Tate kid IS highly rated/regarded. Cunningham had a real good visit. They gotta keep pluggin along. Hard work will reap benefits, eventually ( or should we say hopefully ? ).

I believe Dahlman´s reasoning was he wanted to go to a program that could win a national championship. Based on that, he made the right move. Iowa is far away from that compared to the MSU factory.

Are you guessing on his reasoning, or do you have that as stated fact? If it is a guess, it isnt a bad one considering MSUs recent history, and if you really want to be honest and use that line of thought, no matter who the coach is at Iowa, the history isnt there to ever attract a kid for a chance at the NC, so I guess you should just write it off Iowa altogther.

I believe that was in the presser from a Minneapolis paper - I did read that somewhere.

And if a player is looking at MSU vs. Iowa, the key question would probably be playing time versus title hopes. While Izzo does play his star freshman, if he had come to Iowa he´d have been a starter day 1 possibly rather than waiting his turn.

Time vs title hopes...okay. As I said, no matter who the coach is/has been, Iowa does not have the provenance to attract the really good kids if they really want to win...at least that is how I read your line of reasoning. I believe Iowa can become top flight consistently. I believe working with a coach long term is the only way that can be accomplished. Now, the debate, is SA the coach for that?

I would bet, that Izzo had to really guarantee the kid that he will see some time immediately ( conditioned to protect himself ), or what really would be his incentive if he really is that good and wants to win.

I call a moratorium on defending Steve Alford. It´s making me sick. Especially when I see Dave Wannstedt compared to him in the football forum. At least Wannestedt is an expert of something - defense.

You should stop defending him then, you wont get frustrated.

The state of the program, six years of mediocrity, recruiting, the defection rate, everything that´s taken place surrounding Iowa basketball the last six years is my offer of proof.

All the while Steve Alford continues to act as if he´s big time and that we should all be grateful that the Indiana golden boy is here to take us to the next level. Sorry Henery, but we´ll just have to agree to disagree. It´s obvious nothing is going to change your mind, and, going into year seven with a veteran team, nothing short of a great, great season is going to begin to change mine.

I doubr a great great year would do that. The die has been cast for SA, and those who like, dislike, or are indifferent are as they are. The mediocrity was here since Lute, a breathe of life in 87 and 88, but other wise, nothing special. But, that has been the history of Iowa BB, some beautiful flashes, but no long term satisfaction. Lute was driven out by the fans and the media, SA doesnt have the credentials, but if he gets some success, the same path is probably likely.
