For T. How many runs will they give up tonight? Will the Cubs score more runs than errors tonight? _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain

Putting up no fight whatsoever against a mediocre Dodger team, the Cubs fall again. Not surprising. I won't dance on their grave, because I don't like the Dodgers either and the Cardinals didn't even make the playoffs, but you could see the Cub train wreck coming. I would like to see the Phillies or Brewers get to the WS. I am glad I can root for the NL as usual in the World Series.

Bullshit. By your last sentence you just did. You're loving this and don't try to pretend otherwise.

Sorry guys. I know you hoped for more. Its a bummer. But, at least the core of your team is still good for next year. _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain

They need to make some changes though. The lineup is too feast or famine. They need better table setting at the top of the order. Soriano is NOT a leadoff hitter. He should hit somewhere in the middle of the order.
They don't need major surgery, but the lineup definitely needs some changes to be built to win when it counts.
I'm not going to lie. This sucks. This team had the best record in the NL and their best regular season since 1945. They never lost at home. They were fun and easy to root for. Hell, I became a damn Jim Edmonds fan by the time it was said and done. I loved this team. I thought they were different. I lived and died with every pitch because I honestly thought this was the Cub team where there would be some payoff. I doubt I'll be quite the same next year. Don't get me wrong, I'll pay attention, but it's not going to be the same. It's a little like Iowa football in that I wish I had answers, but I don't.
Sorry to be a dick Uberhawk, but I'm still pretty pissed off, and when you say you aren't reveling in this I don't buy it for a minute. Henery, you've actually talked baseball. Don't think I don't appreciate it.

Couldn't say it better, Donny. I feel the same way. I pretty much put Ube & HH in the same boat, though - Henery was just a little more gentle about it. Salt in the wound - typical and expected.
Fukudome was a gamble that failed, I think. Yes, Soriano has to bat further down in the order, regardless of his ego. It KILLS me to say this, but it may be time to let Lee go. His game was way down this season - especially power numbers. I think he's at the sunset of his career. Get rid of Marquis. Other than that, the rotation is fine - bullpen is decent, too. All in all, not too much is needed. Although, I will say, like you, I'm going to feel very differently next season regardless of any hype. I was sure this was the year. I felt that, even if they slumped a little in the playoffs, they'd turn it right around and be fine. In fact, I thought we'd be watching a game in Wrigley tomorrow night - but no.
I'm in sports hell, I swear. My teams: Hawks, Cubs, Vikings, Raiders. Going back even farther, I was a huge Oilers fan. One day I'm going to snap and just declare myself a fan of USC, Yankees, Cowboys, and the Patriots.

" Salt in the wound" ? T, you can bite me. Thats a bullsh*t comment.
Are you always in the mindset that you are getting picked on, or what? The opening of the thread was thrown at you in a smart*ss manner, a response to your other post. Beyond that, I was offering a hand as I know y'all are long suffering and to have that hope dashed isnt fun.
This team was as close to a special team for the Cubs as I can remember. Nowhere have I taunted ( as you seem to have a radar up for ) about the Cubs demise. There is a good core returning, and depending upon who does what in the league, I expect them to be quite good again. I think CF may be a tender spot, as with Jimmy E and his age and propensity to lay it all out, and subsequently, get injured. If Pie could ever get over the hump, he could take care of the D, and yet be an answer for the Leadoff. Even Soriano could do well in the Leadoff, he just needs to develop some plate discipline, though I do agree, he may be best in the middle.
I like De Rosa, I like his versatility, and sometimes wonder if its best he plays everyday in one position, but really, he seems to be a guy who makes it happen when he is in. Fuku is a first year guy, I think next year will be much more revealing. We dont know if communication, stubborness, or just not having it is the issue. My bet is, is that he has the ability to be a plus player, maybe even exceptional, but he was a rookie, has to learn to adjust ( and, with most Japanese player, they are quite prideful, and will work hard to improve in the offseason ), and if he can communicate better ( less effort, for if he doesnt know English, he can be hampered by a lack of understanding ), he can only make some good advances for nest year. If, next year, he bombs, then he would be on the bubble. Its a four year contract, right?
Pitching. Marquis has to go. If he is under contract, I would give him away just to end the headache that he is. Bullpen, as with most teams, could use a tune up, and I think Wood may well fit in well as reliever, but a guy who could do set up and relief would be a smart get ( esp a LH ).
Theres some baseball talk for you DD. Any of it seem relevant? T, you want o jump in, or am I pickin on your team?
The Cards...need starting help. Need a good, consistent power bat. Need health. Pujols may finally need to get his elbow worked on, so that could lose much of a season. Duncan may fit wel there, if he heals up ( other wise, as a LF, I would trade him ). Ankiel will need to shore up for a full season, see if he will be the real deal. Rasmus may not be ready yet, injuries may have slowed his advance to the Bigs. It will be interesting to see if Ludwick can do it again, or is a flash ( he seems to be a worker, so I would expect a decent year next year ). Glaus was good, but streaky. Kennedy must go. Lopez, Miles, and Izturis are good for the mid IF spots ( unless a power batt is available ). Yadi is a great fit. Schumaker is a nice 4th OF. Addin some help in the bullpen, and settle on a reliever ( go get one? ) and one good starter, and they could make for a good team. _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain

Bite you?! And yank is bush league??
I'll concede that you've been civil, in general. But considering your post history, I'd say there is giddiness at the Cubs demise in there somewhere. So you're not a Cubs-hater, anymore? It's difficult to take your sympathy very seriously. I'm sure if one did a thread search, they would see some less-than-kind posts concerning the Cubs coming from your end.
Picked on? No, I don't feel picked on. Donny's another Cubs fan and there may be a few others who lurk here. I'll admit that it's a lot of sour grapes. I was hoping you and Ube might have to eat a little crow this year, but I am. I still think Lou should have played to beat Milwaukee during the last weekend and opened with the Mets in the playoffs. It would have been an easier start for them.

Eat crow? Harboring some big, bad feelings there, are nt you fella?
I seemed to believe that the Cubs had a better chance to win than you. Isnt that odd?
You seem to so badly want to read into things that arent there. Why do you have this need to believe that I am giddy that the Cubs lost? It may be fun to banter back and forth, but gee, to take pleasure in your disappointment is kind of sick, and that isnt me. _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain

That's funny, Henery. You do in paragraph 2 what you accuse me of in paragraph 3 of your post.
You see, Henery, it's pretty simple here. Of course I expected the Cubs to win - that's exactly why it sucks so bad. My reaction isn't alien...you don't have a clue what it's like to be a Cubs fan, so I don't expect you to understand, anyway.
You're far more offended here than I am....it's all good. There's no need to make negative suggestions about my personal psyche, though. That isn't cool at all.

Upset? Nope. Not at all. Offended? Naw, not at all.
Suggestions? Isnt that your bag?
Gee, I guess seeing my team get swept in the WS disqualifies me from understanding, huh? Or to see them cheated in a clincher game by a horrid mistake call in the WS disqualifies me, huh? Or how aboutnot getting one raod game to take it in 87? Or, having a 3-1 lead over Atlanta, only to blow it and not make the WS? There is more.To have one's team lose is a unique thing to you? _________________ Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain
